# Why is my ac blowing warm air? Ventura County Troubleshooting guide.

# When your air conditioner blows warm air in Ventura County, the cause is often a thermostat setting, restricted airflow, electrical issue, or refrigerant problem, and we can diagnose and repair it quickly in Ventura, Oxnard, Camarillo, or Ojai.

## Start With the Simple Checks

Before we inspect the equipment, we recommend checking a few safe basics:
Confirm the thermostat is set to **Cool**, not Heat or Fan Only.
Set the temperature at least 3–5 degrees below the indoor temperature.
Replace weak thermostat batteries if applicable.
Check that the indoor and outdoor HVAC breakers are on.
Make sure all supply vents are open and not blocked by furniture.
If we find the thermostat fan set to “On,” we may explain why the system seems to blow warm air between cooling cycles. Setting the fan to “Auto” allows it to run only while the compressor is actively cooling.

## A Dirty Air Filter Can Restrict Cooling

A clogged filter is one of the most common reasons we see warm-air complaints. When airflow is restricted, the indoor evaporator coil can freeze, preventing the system from absorbing heat from your home. Once the coil freezes, we may get little or no cool air from the vents.
We recommend checking filters monthly during heavy-use periods, especially during hot Ojai afternoons and extended warm spells in Camarillo and Oxnard. If we see ice on the refrigerant line, we advise turning the system off and calling us rather than continuing to run it.
The Outdoor Unit May Have a Problem
Your outdoor condenser releases heat from the home. If it cannot operate properly, the AC may run but deliver warm or barely cool air indoors.

## Common outdoor-unit problems include:

A dirty condenser coil
A failed capacitor or contactor
A damaged fan motor
A tripped breaker
Debris blocking airflow around the unit
Salt-air corrosion near coastal Ventura and Oxnard
We recommend keeping at least two feet of clear space around the outdoor unit. However, we do not recommend opening electrical panels or washing coils with high pressure, since doing so can damage delicate components.

## Low Refrigerant Usually Means a Leak

Refrigerant does not get “used up” like fuel. If our system is low on refrigerant, we look for a leak before adding refrigerant. Low refrigerant can cause warm air, frozen coils, higher electric bills, and compressor damage.
We use proper testing equipment to locate leaks, make the appropriate repair when possible, and verify refrigerant charge according to manufacturer specifications.
Hot Weather Can Expose an Existing Issue
On extremely hot afternoons, an AC system may run longer, but it should still produce cool air. If cooling disappears during the hottest part of the day, we often find an undersized system, dirty coils, weak electrical components, duct leakage, or a refrigerant issue. We evaluate the full system rather than guessing at one part.
